International students may be awarded a student visa without an interview
Displaying its commitment to international students, the US Department of State announced it has empowered US embassies the ability to grant a student visa without the need for an interview.
The statement from the Department of State reads, “Consular officers may, if they so choose, and pursuant to local conditions, now waive the visa interview requirement for F, M, and academic J visa applicants….” Students may be eligible to receive a visa without an interview if they:
- Were not denied a visa previously
- Have “no apparent ineligibility or potential ineligibility”
- Are citizens or nationals of a country that participates in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP)
“This is a game changer,” says Jason Hall, President of BrighterEd. “This will help the students by potentially removing one of the biggest barriers of studying in the US. This will give students and admissions counselors continued confidence in the US and its commitment to international education.”
