The U.S. Department of State: Consular Affairs announced on Wednesday that it will cancel all immigrant and non-immigrant visa appointments. This announcement came without indication of when interviews will resume except for “as soon as possible….”

What this means is that international students will not be able to obtain a student visa, due to not being able to interview at an embassy. This will further impact students’ ability to get a visa and get to campus in the US, regardless of academic quality of if a valid I-20 is obtained.

It is unclear which embassies are closing, so it is yet to be determined if select embassies will remain open and be available for visa interviews.
